A Guide to Your First Corrective Chiropractic Appointment

  • A Guide to Your First Corrective Chiropractic Appointment

If you’ve never been to the chiropractor before, it’s very normal to have questions or concerns. Perhaps you even experience a sense of apprehension at the thought of a spinal adjustment. We’d like to put your mind at ease by sharing what your first appointment will look like and how to prepare for it.

Your First Appointment

When you step into our office for the first time, a member of our team will welcome you and give you a brief tour to show you around. Next, we will administer two exams: a posture analysis and a set of x-rays. We’ll learn more about your overall health and lifestyle in your initial consultation, and then give you your first adjustment.

The main purpose of your first appointment, however, is for us to get to know each other–for us to learn about how we can help you and for you to learn how we will approach your care. Spinal adjustments heal your body over time, so you shouldn’t expect to come in once and feel significantly different.

You might wonder if getting a spinal adjustment hurts. This is one of the questions we get the most when we’re speaking with new patients. Our adjustments are precise, gentle, and effective. For adults, some soreness may be experienced as your spine begins to move in ways it hasn’t in years (similar to muscle soreness when you begin a new exercise routine). This soreness may increase before tapering off and resulting in a more aligned, healed nervous system. Beyond the potential for initial soreness, though, adjustments are painless and gentle.

Getting Ready for Your First Appointment

Before you come to our office, you’ll fill out our preliminary paperwork that gives us the initial information we need before seeing you. If you’re so inclined, you can read about our services and mission on our website–though we will talk through that information during your first visit and answer any questions.

As far as clothing goes, feel free to wear anything you are comfortable in that allows movement. Work clothes are completely fine–and so are sweatpants! If you come in an outfit you’d prefer more coverage for during your adjustment, we do provide blankets for your convenience.

All in all, there is absolutely nothing to worry about when it comes to your first appointment. Our team has many years of combined experience to offer, and provide gentle, careful, and precise adjustments. We are dedicated to answering any questions you have, learning the full picture of your health, and having ongoing conversations about your treatment.

After your first appointment, we’ll create a personalized treatment plan for moving forward. We truly believe in the innate power your body has to heal itself–and can’t wait for you to experience this for yourself.
